Here:
La mort des mots, ou, le mot de la mort
This is an essay in French on "Le Mur (The Wall)," a short story by Jean-Paul Sartre. I wrote it for my French class. It's a very brief analysis of the function of "word" in this story.
The story is very famous as a quintessential fictional work of existentialism, and is widely anthologized (perhaps you can find the text online). If you haven't read it, check it out.
I compare this with the prose-poem-like piece I wrote at the beginning of last semester, and am strongly convinced that I have no talent whatsoever for creative writing.
That is not to say, of course, that I'm even moderately good at expository writing. The road to a good writer is narrow and long. My ultimate ideal is to write with the clarity of W. V. Quine, the rigor of Marx, the wit of Kierkegaard, the beauty of Nietzsche, and the love of St. Augustine. (Now that's a lofty ideal but hey.)

Brahms' burning red, Coltrane's cobalt blue
Thursday night last week was the fourth concert of this year's Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival. Saturday night was Free Bridge Quintet (U.Va's official jazz faculty quintet) concert. These were the first two musical performances I attended this semester.

Present/Present, Se présenter/Présent(e)
A quite hectic week got around me. I hectically got around it. Or I got it around. Or however you have it. It has been a week of presentation.

Someone give me a well-accentuated weekend
Although I thought I had had less work than the previous week, I must have been quite weary because I've slept so much since last night.

Analytic richness of German words
In IT we are reading some Wilhelm Dilthey, a very important figure in the history of Hermeneutics, filling the gap between Schleiermacher and Gadamer.

Strong foundationalism, probability, and inference to the best explanation
The main point of contention between strong foundationalists and modest foundationalits is whether or not to require "Cartesian certainty" for the foundational beliefs.

Update: Prose (エッセー)
Here:

Philosophical way of speaking
One of the things I noticed recently is that, in philosophy class, some people try to speak in an unnecessarily difficult way, using many intellectual-sounding polysyllabic jargons.
