The harder I should be working, the more I waste time, watching stupid movies, playing chess, or just surfing random places on the web. I seem to be just that way. It stinks.

哲学、詩、音楽…と才能について
大学の学生グループが制作している文学系の雑誌で『Inkstone』（「すずり」という意味）ってのがあって、先日発行された今年の号に僕の書いた詩が２作品掲載されたんですね。それで、巻末のスタッフと寄稿者のプロフィールのページのために、何でもいいから６０単語で自己紹介みたいなものを書いてくれ、と頼まれたんです。

I will be speaking at Inkstone reception on Monday
Inkstone, a student-run organization that publishes every spring a magazine containing literary works and articles related to Asian American issues, accepted two of my poems for the 2007 issue. They invited me to give a brief speech at their reception, which will take place this Monday, April 23rd, from 7:00pm in the Kaleidoscope Room, 3rd Floor Newcomb Hall.
The event is co-hosted by Inkstone and the Japanese Club. Some details are here. They will have nationally-acclaimed children's storybook author Amy Lee-Tai as guest speaker. Sounds interesting.
My own speech will be given at around 8:30pm. I will say a little bit about the idea of silence, and then read one of the poems accepted, entitled "Interpretations of Silence."
After failing quite miserably in my presentation on Xenakis' music in my music class (20M) today, I am quite nervous. Well, at least I have a more complete manuscript to read for this speech. I'll do what I can.

ヴァージニア工科大学での銃乱射事件について
こちらの時間で１６日の朝、ヴァージニア工科大学のキャンパス内で、少なくとも３３人が死亡、２２人が怪我を負う銃発砲・乱射事件がありました。

Facing Facebook
I set up my profile on Facebook. I never thought I would do this, but there is this one "group" I was interested in.
And now I'm writing a post in English. The whole thing is a kind of a jest toward myself, and it's all done by a (usual) whim. "Encore quelques conneries comme ca. . ."
The SNS is quite complicated, and I ain't got any friend. So I am unfit for it both technologically and sociologically. Probably a bad idea, but if (say) someone made me, I say that was a bad idea.

この年で体のあちこちが痛いなんて言うと、きっと冗談だと思われるでしょうが、本当です。
ちょっと長い間座って読書をすれば、眼精疲労と腰痛で集中力が断ち切られますし、日中いつもより少し多く歩くと夜には背中が痛くなりますし、ほんの数ページ論文をタイプするだけで肩が突き刺さるように凝ってしまいます。
２１歳でこんな状態だと、もうもちろんお先は真っ暗です。で、痛いものは痛いですから、我慢して勉強するのはつらいです。
ああ、肉体は弱いし、心も熱していないんだなぁ。

悔しい。
たった今、悔しいことがありました。悔しいな、と久しぶりに感じました。昔は負けず嫌いだったので、悔しいと思うことがたくさんあったのですが…。
悔しい、というのは直接は英語に訳せないような気がします。情けない、残念だ、悔やまれる、屈辱的だ、等々、いろんな気持ちがごっちゃになっています。
結果が自分の能力、価値と釣り合わない、と感じるから悔しいと感じるのだと思います。つまりは自分を過大評価しているってことです。まぁそんな分析をしても仕方ありませんが…

死ぬまで哲学を勉強する
日本では４月は年度の始まりですが、５月に年度が終わるアメリカではいよいよ年度末という感じで忙しくなってきてます。僕はとしては大学三年の最後の一ヶ月です。光陰ゼノンの矢の如し（笑）。

四月馬鹿はどこから来たか
日本だと４月１日は小中学生にとっては春休みなので、エイプリル・フールで友達をからかった記憶というのは僕には残念ながらないのですが、この行事について今日何となく少し検索してみたら、その起源は実ははっきりとはわかっていないということを知りました。
