Here:
Un Cœur simple... et son ambivalence compliquée
An essay in French on "Un Cœur simple," a celebrated short story by Gustav Flaubert. It examines the nature of empathy as exemplified in a simple heart.
My essay aside, Flaubert is fascinating, to say the very least. The language is fairly accessible to beginning French students (myself included), if one goes slow enough.
The story is included in a book called "Trois Contes," or "Three Tales," and can be read in a number of places online, of which I indicate one: Gustav Flaubert
