新しいMacBookを購入し、いわゆる“iApp”が快適に動くようになったので、ホームページとブログをiWebで作成することにしました。

mixiから飛んできてもらっている皆様につきましては、外部ブログのリンクを数日後に変更しますのでそれ以降は問題なく閲覧できるようになります。
ああ、さっぱりとした。という感じでしょうか。
完全にMac上で制作をしておりますので、推奨環境はMacとSafariまたはFirefoxです。iPhoneでもキレイに読めます。
一応Windows XP(IEとFirefox)で表示の確認はしました。表示が大幅に乱れることはありませんが、アンチエイリアスが効いてなくてエレガントじゃないです。
いろいろ書きたいことはあり、書かないと昨日何したかも忘れてしまうような生活なので書きたいのですが、どうもこうも時間が…という感じでしたが、制作プロセスはかなり簡略化、一本化されたのでいままでよりずっと楽になったかなという気がしています。
それでは、これから「行為の哲学」ゼミにいってきます。Actingとtrying to actの違いについて勉強してきますです。
あ、iWebはインポートができないのでこのブログは残します(ブログ移転は実は2回目)。コメント等も、まさか古い記事にはつかんと思いますが、モニタはしております。

A temporary Web page for my papers, etc.
As I begin my postgraduate studies, I'm thinking that it'd be nice to have a sober, semi-professional kind of Web site for my papers and other works, rather than the current, purely avocational site, Meandering at Sentimental Notions.
But I have no time to restructure the whole thing now, nor have I decided how I should go about it. So, for the time being, I made a little page with Google Page Creator, where I can upload some of my papers:

You can go there and download and perhaps even read (!?) some of my undergraduate works. Most of them are uploaded just as they were submitted for the original purpose. So there are mistakes and errors. But of all the gibberish I have produced while in Virginia, these represent some of the more decent products.
The immediate reason for creating such a temporary site was because someone asked me to upload my thesis. It's there now. But I wanted to make sure (to myself perhaps?) that philosophical pragmatics is by no means all I do. So I uploaded some other papers on sundry topics.
I have at least a couple more works that I want to make available. But they do need more than minimal revision and therefore are not there yet.

フランシス・ポンジュは散文詩やエッセイの分野で活躍した20世紀フランスの詩人です。詩集『Parti pris des choses』において彼は、雨、ろうそく、オレンジなど、身近にある「もの」や「こと」を、感情と象徴を抑えた、注意深くそして極めて洗練された文体で記述しました。晩年のデリダも取り上げていますが、日本ではあまり知られていないようです。
この作品は彼のスタイルを模倣して風(le vent)について19・20世紀フランス文学のクラスの課題として書いたパスティーシュです。散文が読まれた時に自然にたち現れるリズムや音感(詩の訪れ=音ずれ)に注意して書いたことを記憶しています。

この暮れのめちゃくちゃ忙しくて追いつめられている時に、こんなことやってる場合じゃないんですけど…。とにかく、訳詩を12篇分追加、また掲載順を全集に収録されている順番に直しました。
有名な1212(A word is dead...)なんかは、中学2年程度の英語がわかれば、英語で読めます。ぜひご一読あれ。オリジナルはここに。
僕の個人的なお気に入りは、449、615、そして1774でしょうか。最後のは文字通りの意味を訳すのもほとんど不可能かと思われます。

More pictures from France (more particularly, from Lyon). I've put together 23 pictures under the heading "places." Three more sections are to follow, in a few days (hopefully).
Photoshopping these miserable images ("ces quelques hideux feuillets de mon carnet de damné," says Rimbaud), sometimes I don't understand why on earth I'm doing this. The pictures I've taken blindly, for no one. And no one in fact will see them.
To do something for someone, that is to say to have a reason. Not to have a reason can sometimes be a reason to do a thing ("for no reason")... reason is my sickness.

Having scanned all the pictures taken in France, I am stunned by how horrible they are. They are just disastrous.
I'm still thinking how these regrettable images can be put together and presented (if at all). For now I've put together just five of them, minimally decent (with some photoshop tampering). This is an experimental trial: hence the title, "un essai."
"Artifictionalité" is my neologism combining "artificiality" and "fictionality." "Temps" in French can either mean "time" or "weather." Despite (or because of, perhaps) the low quality of the images, I like this title very much; it is (as always) too deep to be explained.
My photographic incompetence issues probably from my ignorance: not only did I lack skill, effort and talent; I didn't know (j'ignorais) why and for whom I was taking all these pictures.
Even a photographic image must be addressed. Like an utterance.

Update : Prose "Speech given at the Inkstone reception"

Inkstone, a student-run organization at UVa that publishes a yearly magazine containing literary works and articles related to Asian American issues, accepted two of my poems for the 2007 issue. They invited me to give a brief speech and read a poem at their reception.
The speech is presented here almost verbatim. At the reception, I gave this speech, and read one of the poems accepted, entitled "Interpretations of Silence." I spoke hogwash, as does the poem, and I'm sure people thought: "What is this guy talking about?"

理由はよくわからないが、エミリー・ディキンソンの詩を幾つか訳してみた。もともと誰かに読まれるために書かれたのではないから、誰かに読ませるために訳すわけでもなく、またそれで構わない。全く嫌らしいやつだ、と後でどこからか聞こえてくるだろうけど。
とにかく、一週間の休みの半分は無駄に過ごした。残りも無駄に過ごすだろう。そういうものだ。つまりそれほどのものでしかなかった、ということ。

先月の初めに書いて、ページもつくってあったんだけどそれからなんとなくほっぽってあったものです。その時に書いた説明には「詩をもって何かを語ろうとしないために。習作。詩的雰囲気とは一体なにか、考える。」とあります。な〜に言ってんだか。
ところで今英語でもう二つくらい書けそうな感じです。一つはほとんど完成形。もう一つに関して、昨日の朝寝ていたら素晴らしい文が五行分くらい思いついたんですけど、起きてパソコンに向かった途端完全に失念してしまいました。まぁよくあることです。忘れてしまうくらいのフレーズはそれほど良くなかったと思うことにしてます。

This is an essay in French on "Le Mur (The Wall)," a short story by Jean-Paul Sartre. I wrote it for my French class. It's a very brief analysis of the function of "word" in this story.
The story is very famous as a quintessential fictional work of existentialism, and is widely anthologized (perhaps you can find the text online). If you haven't read it, check it out.
I compare this with the prose-poem-like piece I wrote at the beginning of last semester, and am strongly convinced that I have no talent whatsoever for creative writing.
That is not to say, of course, that I'm even moderately good at expository writing. The road to a good writer is narrow and long. My ultimate ideal is to write with the clarity of W. V. Quine, the rigor of Marx, the wit of Kierkegaard, the beauty of Nietzsche, and the love of St. Augustine. (Now that's a lofty ideal but hey.)

ブログに書いてきた記事のうち比較的長くてアクセス数の多かった(多い)ものを「エッセー」としてメインのサイトにアップしました。本文の改訂はしていません。基本的にコピペです。
いくらカテゴリと月別アーカイブで整理されているとはいえ、ブログの形式内で少しは内容のある記事とどうでも良い記事を見分けるのは困難です。最近ではここのようなくだらないコンテンツばかりのブログを結果からはじくような検索エンジンサービスもあります。また、日本語Prose(散文)のセクションのエッセー・ペーパの項にいつまでも何もないのも寂しいものです(笑)。以上の理由から、普段より少しだけ時間をかけて書いた記事の体裁を整えてあげても良いかな、と考えたのでした。

高校三年の時一学期だけ入門的な写真の授業をとったんですけど、その時の写真です。お蔵入りになりかけてましたが最近スキャンしたのでちゃんとまとめてみました(笑)。それまで暗室に入ったこともなかったし、なんとなく楽しい授業が思い出されるのでタイトルは「First Lessons」としました。
白黒だとなんか味があるし、やはり自分で現像・プリントしたから愛着があります。被写体もいいなぁ。一枚一枚に思い出があるというか。このあたりを見てるとやっぱり人間を撮るのが一番おもしろいなと感じるわけです。一番難しいのかもしれないけど。

Some poems assumed shape and I decided to collect them under the heading "A Season of Thousand Sorrows." I have a couple more "ideas" but I don't know how many more I can compose for this series.
The first was written very fast. The idea expressed here is the kind that sparks in a flash when one is doing most quotidian things, like going to a bathroom.
The second was originally composed for a collection of pictures that can be browsed here. Some modifications were made.
The third was originally written in Japanese, and, despite its simple form, the ambiguous diction in Japanese could not be translated. So I decided to insert another ambiguity.

またラヴ・ソング。また夏だね。悲しいような、悲しくないような。一分後にものすごく悲しいことが起こるような、そんな気分。最近ね。「悲しい」って言った(書いた)ときにホントにただ悲しいだけならあんまり面白い詩は書けないと思うけど。
もう一つ二つね、今日本語でできそう。アイディア自体はかなり前からあって。二つにするべきか一つにまとめるべきかっていう。そこが悩み。最初は英語か日本語かもわからなかった(詩はだんだん見えてくるものです)。もう少し待ちましょう。

Update: Poems "Interpretations of Silence" (6/7)

Echoes
The penultimate poem in the ongoing project, "Interpretations of Silence." I think I have to start thinking about writing new poems.
In terms of the date of conception, this is actually the last poem in the present series. With this poem I saw that my natural inclination began to diverge from the theme of "interpretations of silence." What comes next? Who knows?

Update: Poems "Interpretations of Silence" (5/7)

Voici le printemps!
The fifth poem in the ongoing project, "Interpretations of Silence." I shall upload the remaining two poems shortly after I get back home.
This piece is similar in sentiment to the preceding one, "Flower's silence." The orientation with the natural world is the same, and they both express (the early) Wittgensteinian thought. In fact, they were written on the same day.
"Voici le printemps!" translates as "here is spring!" but in English it would be more natural to say "spring is here!" but in that simplicity the excitement is lost. I like the word "Voici" (and "voilà"), because of its condensation, its explosive here-is-ness.

Flower's Silence
The fourth poem in the ongoing project, "Interpretations of Silence." It looks like I will be finishing up the series after I get back home. But that's fine.
In this poem I discuss flower, one of the most commonplace element in the art of poetry. But I play with the philosophy of Wittgenstein, as expressed in his Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus. It may be somewhat difficult poem in this regard, but otherwise, well, I must say, the expression is quite simple and honest.

The third poem in the ongoing project, "Interpretations of Silence." As I put them up one by one, I feel the end of the year drawing nearer and nearer.
This one just flowed out after the first sentence came to my mind one day. I had just begun reading Heidegger's Being and Time then. This poem consists mainly of questions, and in that sense it is inconclusive and (hopefully) thought-provoking. The obvious double-meaning of the title is to be noted.

A Simple Sun
The second poem in the ongoing project, "Interpretations of Silence." I have 5 more to come.
One of the important themes of "Interpretation of Silence" is "anti-poetry." I mean something quite positive by this, and my very putting forward these pieces affirms that paradox. Oh poetry, this contradictory enterprise! But as Nietzsche said, "the price of fruitfulness is to be rich in internal opposition."
But enough of theoretical rubbish. This one is a simple love poem. A love poem... well, why would I even need this qualification? All my poems are love poems anyway.

A Hope
I have recently written up seven poems under the title "Interpretations of Silence." It is the first series of poems in English I have written in quite a while (virtually almost a year).
I decided to put them up one by one, in such a pace that by the time all seven poems are up, I will be done with the school for this year. So stay tuned, come back, and read all seven of them.
This first one, "A Hope," is a short piece that serves as a prelude, not only to this particular sequence, but also within a greater scale, one might say, to a new phase in my writing life.
